Description

This speculative project stems from my personal love for technology and space flight. To capture the essence of WIRED's STEM-focused subject matter, I anchored the piece in the imagery of a rocket launch to inspire and captivate the viewer quickly. The visual direction uses a stark, high-contrast monochrome palette to evoke the printed page of the magazine's roots. I then integrated UI elements and hyper-digital moments to reflect its modern digital format and origins as a computer publication.

The preproduction phase focused on mapping out the blend of space flight imagery with high-contrast, black-and-white print aesthetics. Storyboards and moodboards were developed to establish how the hyper-digital UI elements would interact with the core rocket launch concept.

This project marked my deepest foray into 3D at the time using Cinema 4D. I combined it with my existing After Effects experience to create a an intuitive workflow for myself. This approach allowed me to easily integrate 2D motion graphics and digital artifacts into the 3D space.

The After Effects project heavily utilized a holomatrix effect to manipulate the image and achieve the exact glitchy treatment I wanted. A second timeline was used for complex pre-comping to layer all the 2D animation and motion graphics. Finally, the Premiere Pro timeline served as the base for assembling a cohesive soundscape from various audio libraries to elevate the final piece.

These final style frames showcase the convergence of all the digital and 3D elements into a unified visual sequence. Completing this project bridged my familiar After Effects background with new dimensions of animation, ultimately igniting my current passion for Cinema 4D and 3D motion graphics as a whole.
